Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge. The incident occurred shortly after Kidd had signed with the New York Knicks. Following the plea a judge has placed Kidd on interim probation and he will have to speak to Long Island high school students about the dangers of drunk driving.
Kidd was arrested on July 15, 2012. Southampton Town police say he smashed his Cadillac SUV into a telephone pole in the hamlet of Water Mill. Police say he smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. It’s unclear if Kidd will face any repercussions from the league.
He retired as an NBA player following the 2012-13 season and was hired to coach the Nets. He took the team to two NBA Finals as player when the team was located in New Jersey. He averaged 6 points, 3.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game in his final season with the Knicks.
