Last night in Bevery Hills, Dr. Dre presents the Vanguard Award to K Dot.

Leading the West Coast renaissance is Kendrick Lamar. Ever since Section 80 we have been all ears, rightfully so. The avid hip-hop fan waits with the utmost anticipation for anything new that Kendrick puts out or any track featuring a Kendrick verse. We can foresee a bright future for Kendrick as his career blooms and the Grammy podium awaits. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers awarded Kendrick Lamar with the 2013 Vanguard Award, which recognizes the impact of new and developing musical genres and the artists who push those genres to new heights. Kendrick Lamar joins previous artists who have received the Vanguard Award such as Beastie Boys, Santigold, Diplo, and Janelle Monae. Making this reception all the more special was Dr. Dre, Kendrick’s mentor, handing the award over to him.
