Kendrick Lamar proclaimed he’s the King of NY on Big Sean’s “Control” and he now has the backing of editors of GQ magazine, who has just named him Rapper of the Year.
The Compton rapper is having an helluva year. Between a successful album, a newsworthy verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” sold out shows, the title of Rapper of the Year is suitable.
When asked about his controversial verse and the mentioning of his peers, particularly Drake, he referred to their friendship as “cool,” and would be “okay if we weren’t.”
Lamar won “Album of the Year” for his debut album, good kid m.a.d.d city at this year’s Soul Train Awards.
