Kendrick reflects on meeting Em for the first time. Let’s hope for a future collaboration.
Kendrick Lamar recently spoke with MTV and opened up about his first substantial interaction with Eminem. Kendrick was out in Detroit performing and received a call to meet with the Detroit phenom in the studio. Kendrick claims the two did not record music in the studio but here’s hoping that he’s just planning a big surprise for the masses.
“It was unexpected, I just went to Detroit and I had a show out there and I got a call saying, ‘Em wants you to come to the studio, come to the studio fast.’ That was me actually just meeting and greeting,’ Kendrick stated. “I bumped heads with Eminem in the past, but it was very brief, that was my first time really chopping it up with him, getting to ask all the questions I wanted to ask him.”
The Compton MC also mentions Em’s thoughts on his critically acclaimed album good kid, m.A.A.d city. “He basically told me albums haven’t been done like that in a long time from a new artist, and he can appreciate how I structured the whole thing. Always stay focused on the craft and not indulge in the other crazy stuff that comes around.”
