So, if you’ve been on the internet anytime since Sunday, you have inevitably run into some think piece about how Macklemore robbed Kendrick Lamar‘s rightful “Hip Hop Album of the Year” Grammy award. It seems that the consensus is that even though Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had a great year, sold a ton of records, and dominated pop radio, Kendrick had the stronger, more artistic and conceptual project; perhaps, owing to its downfall, as the voting committee heavily relies on name recognition and numbers. We here at the Source had our own opinion on the entire controversy, where we mostly agreed with this prevailing thought

After managing to duck and dodge the questions, Kendrick Lamar finally broke his silence on the entire events. While his fans and supporters reacted with pure anger, sympathy, and disgust, the Compton emcee choose to take the moral high road, letting it be known that he supports his fellow rapper. Stating to XXL:

“It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”

Although he might not agree with his fans about the snub, he does share their frustration at hip hop’s  representation at the Grammys; he wants to see more.

I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre, we part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”

Hopefully, Kendrick has decided to deal with it internally, and vent about on his next album. We shall see in due time.
