The man behind the mayhem speaks to Hot 97′s Peter Rosenberg
Kendrick Lamar was notably absent for comment–either by choice or due to the fact he was in Europe at the time “Control” dropped–when the internet went crazy about his “king of new york” and name-drop-filled verse on Big Sean‘s Hall Of Fame leftover, but one day after briefly addressing the song with Big Boy on his morning show in Los Angeles, Kendrick Lamar spent over 15 minutes speaking to Peter Rosenberg about the aftermath of the verse, the nature of his thought process and the concept behind the content of the verse. During the interview he joked that Kevin Hart had the best response, but genuinely thought King Los stepped up to the plate the best, addressed Papoose’s verse as “comical”, and spoke about a Maino interview that made him re-visit the way he thought about and interacted with hip-hop. Listen to a rip of the entire interview below.
