Lil Wayne released “Moment,” a track from the highly anticipated YMCMB compilation, Rise of An Empire, yesterday and the content of Wayne’s lyrics hasn’t changed, it’s still dope, murder, money, sex and snippets of profound life lessons, like when he raps,”My oldest son just turned five/I said, ‘lil’ ni…ga you a man now.’”
Not only is the content the same, but “Moment” reminds listeners of the pre-rock Wayne. Or the Dedication and Drought mix-tape Wayne. Back when his bravado could boost the confidence of the lamest dudes in the city. You can hear the hunger, but he raps as if he doesn’t have to prove he’s one of the best. It’s like all he has to do is raise his voice to certain pitch and his fellow MCs will understand. For instance, he raps, ’Ni….as say they kings/they lying/Boy you talking to a card shark/I already made my mark/please don’t think I just pop corks…..I been a beast on this field/I need new cleeks, outgrew these.”
Wayne’s wittiness is still on point with rhymes like, “I’m smoking/getting head/looking down trying to read lips,” fans are ready for the release of Rise of An Empire and The Carter 5.
“Moment” is the second release from Rise of An Empire, which has a March 11th release date. The first single,”Senile,” which features Tyga, Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Wayne was released in February.
