The dynamic duo team up again

In case you haven’t heard, Rick Ross‘ 6th solo album, Mastermind (MMG/Atlantic), wasn’t released on its originally scheduled release date (December 17th), and won’t be released at all this year. Still, Ross has had himself a comfortable year, debuting his crew’s third compilation album (Self Made 3) in the top 5 on Billboard, and making stellar guest appearances on Jay Z‘s Magna Carta…Holy Grail album, and Pusha T’s My Name Is My Name album before embarking on his Mastermind tour with 1500 or Nothin’ providing live-band backing. The cherry on top appears to be his new single, “The Devil Is A Lie”, the third one he’s released in an effort to heighten the buzz for his upcoming LP (“Box Chevy” was released this past February, “No Games” landed this past summer), and who better to do it with than his partner in crime. Though Jay did his Watch The Throne album with his good friend and protege Kanye West, it would behoove him to consider doing an LP with Rick Ross, with whom he probably has his richest history on wax.

The two have been collaborating since 2006, when Jay hopped on the remix to Rick Ross’ breakout single “Hustlin’”, and haven’t slowed up. Ross’ 2007 album brought their first original song, “Maybach Music”, and two albums later, on Teflon Don (2010), Ross invited Jay Z to hold court yet again. Jay Z got to talking his sh*t again on a Rick Ross’ record last summer, when the God Forgives, I Don’t single “3 Kings” hit, and already this year, the two have hooked up for one of 2013′s better rap songs, “F*ckwithmeyouknowigotit”, which has evolved into a monster all its own.

“Devil Is A Lie” finds the former labelmates are batting a thousand.
