In an attempt to elude police, a man swam for 7 hours off the shores of San Diego in the wee hours of Sunday into Monday morning in hopes of not getting arrested.
The chase began when Coronado police approached John Michael White 46, and instead of complying with police White ran into the ocean and swam for 2.5 miles south to Silver Strand Beach.
While on the run (or should we say, swim) White swam up and down the coast trying to elude the police and in the process he yelled death threats to officials who were on his trail. According to Lea Corbin he said White ”threatened to kill any officer who tried to come in and get him.”
Its reported police, K-9 units, divers and helicopter patrol all were in pursuit of the runner and all attempted to get White to surrender himself and to get him out of the water. Finally at 5 am, White was arrested after the weird chase, police say he may have been under the influence of some kind of drug. Which would make sense on all levels, who jumps in the water to elude the police.
