The “Nut Job” is a star studded animated film about one squirrel’s mission to save himself from starvation, until human affairs cause him some problems.
Will Arnett is the voice of ‘Surly’ the lead street smart squirrel who in the beginning only looks out for himself. which lands him in a state of exile from his home in the park. Where there’s a knucklehead guy in an animated film, there’s sure to be a sassy and smart female counterpart to show him the way. In this case that leading lady squirrel is ‘Andie’ voiced by Katherine heigl. Though everyone else in the Park can see no good in ‘Surly’, ‘Andie’ continues to believe he can be trusted in helping save their people from starvation in the winter.
Once there finally seems to be an answer to all their problems, their cause gets intertwined with a bank heist involving the owners of the nut store they were planning on robbing. This adds an interesting twist to the plot because now there are two “jobs” occurring at once. Along with the bank robbers comes their guard dog ‘Precious’ voiced by Maya Rudolph, who becomes an unexpected ally to the squirrels. ‘Precious’ also adds humor to the film with her bubbly personality.
This film has all the ingredients necessary for a great adventure. There is usually one solid “bad guy” but this film has several, ‘Raccoon’ voiced by Liam Neelson and ‘King’ voiced by Stephen Lang to name a few. But what’s a villain without minions, a gangster love story and selfish motives ? Nothing, that’s why this film is set to be an interesting watch.
The film’s Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy is now in stores.
