WBC welterweight champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr announced his next opponent via Twitter late Monday evening. Mayweather will defend his welterweight title against Marcos Maidana on May 3rd. Marcos Maidana is no Manny Pacquio but he boasts an impressive record of 35-3, with 31 knockouts. Maidana wasted no time taunting Mayweather when he told sources:
“I just handed a great defensive fighter his first loss and I plan to do the same to Mayweather. I don’t care whether he’s the best and undefeated. I will bring some real Latino power to him on May 3rd.”
The venue for the fight has yet to be determined. Brooklyn’s Barclays Center has been brought up as one of leading locations to host the event. The showdown vs Maidana will be Mayweather’s third of his 30-month, six fight deal that he inked last February. The deal is set to earn Mayweather above a whopping $200 million dollars.
