The hip hop trailblazer drops her first single since 2007.
For those who have been fiending for a number to take you back to the golden days of hip hop, MC Lyte delivers just what you’ve been “Cravin.”
The Natives-produced soulful, summertime single is due to live on Lyte’s forthcoming LP. The currently untitled project will be released on LoudBox Entertainment/Sunni Gyrl, Inc.
For those who don’t know, the Lyte legacy began in the late-80s when she became the first female rapper to release a full-length solo album – ‘Lyte As A Rock.’ Needless to say, she helped pave the way for hip hop-hers who followed suit.
Although this is the Brooklyn icon’s first artistic release in some time, she has been very much active in the hip hop community and the industry at large. In 2011, she was the first African American appointed to President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Recording Academy, and she also founded the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation in 2012. The organization partnered with the University of Wisconsin – Madison to award two $100,000 scholarships to freshmen enrolling for the Fall 2013 semester. Her influence on the culture is very much alive, and extends far beyond your speakers.
We look forward to hearing more from her forthcoming LP.
Til then, you can appease your Lyte craving after the jump, and download it here.
