Meet the youngest gold medal winner in the Winter Olympics
Figure skater, Julia Lipnitskaia, became the youngest to take home a gold medal in this year’s Winter Olympics and the Russian native had a lot to smile about since she was almost cut from the winter games because of her age.
She just turned 15 last June and the Olympics committee didn’t know what to do until they seen her talent and how she was really good at figure skating.
She’s been skating since she was 4 and training ever since she was 8 at famed Russian sports club, CSKA Moscow. Two years ago, she took home her first gold medal at the world junior championship and silver at the Russian senior championship.
The New York Times recently did a profile of Lipnitskaia and her teammate, Adelina Sotnikova, about one of them taking the gold in this yea’sr Winter Olympics.
Here is what famed figure skater, Tara Lipinski said about the the recent winner:
”could be the surprise of the Olympics.” Safe to say: Julia Lipnitskaia not surprising anyone anymore.”
Congratulations to Julia Lipnitskaia!
