NFL Prospect Michael Sam Says He Wanted To Own His Truth
“I am Michael Sam, I am a college graduate, Im african american & I’m Gay.”
ESPN has just broken the news that Missouri Defensive End Michael Sam – who is a solid NFL prospect in this years upcoming draft having been last years SEC Defensive Player of The Year – has come out in an exclusive interview with ESPN’s Chris Connely that he is gay. Sam said a big reason for him deciding to come out publicly now was because of the fact that many NFL scouts were already aware of this due to interviews with his teammates.
Further details seem to imply that many people were aware of the fact earlier in the year. In fact Mark Shwartz of ESPN said that a friend of Sam’s mentioned he was by no means in hiding, wearing rainbow colored arm bands during the season (you can see in the picture above). Interesting that in today’s instant news culture this somehow stayed under the radar.
