Multifaceted Producer Welcomes New Tonight Show Era With Tribute To Legendary Hip-Hop Crew
Jimmy Fallon has paid his dues and risen in the ranks from SNL standout to being one of, if not the, best late night talk show hosts in America. His come up has culminated in him assuming the mantle of NBC’s most prestigious late night talk show, The Tonight Show, becoming the next in a long line of legendary hosts, including Johnny Carson & Jay Leno, who have brought humor and insight to the American public after primetime.
Jimmy’s not going it alone, however. In his climb to the top, he’s brought with him the band that has undoubtedly helped make his brand second to none: The Legendary Roots Crew. The Philadelphian ensemble have long been touted as an extremely underrated and integral part of Hip-Hop over the past two decades and their inclusion on Jimmy Fallon’s late night run has been seen in the eyes of many as suitable comeuppance for all their years of great musical output without proper mainstream recognition.
In honor of the momentous occasion, New Jersey-based DJ and producer Mr. Green, known for his ability to make album-ready production on the spot using nearly any soundbite imaginable, dug in the crates to create an original beat made of nothing but samples from Black Thought and Malik B., The Roots go-to vocalists.
Mr. Green’s VICE/Noisey-backed Live From The Streets webseries continually finds the producer and turntablilist creating these amazing instrumentals and his tribute to The Roots is not only timely and appropriate but also flat out dope music.
Check out Mr. Greens tribute below and be sure to catch the first episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon at it’s special midnight airing time, tonight on NBC, after the Olympics and your local news.
