There’s no doubt that the Super Bowl this year is a very big deal. Heck, it’s a big deal every year. It seems like a lot of people are pulling for the Seahawks. Let’s just hope the commercials bring the heat, seeing that they’ve been slacking in recent years. And as happy as I am for the half time show (Bruno Mars & Red Hot Chili Peppers), I still feel that Hip-Hop is greatly underrepresented in the percentage of performers in history. Sure we had Diddy, Nelly, and Queen Latifah in separate years, but when will we have an all Hip-Hop half time show? Maybe that’s too much to ask for. Well, instead, we’ve created a half time show of our own, if you’d like. Here is a collection of artists that may one day make it to super-stardom and grace the stage of a Super Bowl half time show. Sound off on our Twitter (@TheSource). If you can do better yourself, submit a track or video to SYLR@thesource.com.
Tell Tale Medicine Machine (feat. Denmark Vessey) – “Shoe String Theory”
The Chicago music ensemble enlists Denmark for the second single off their eponymous LP (4/22). It’s going to be a good kind of different. The track also has drummer Tyler Berg of the Hip-Hop/Soul group, Sidewalk Chalk, whose second album, Leaves, is dropping 2/25.
Alexander Spit (feat. DaVinci) – “Pool Shark”
Spit and DaVinci put it best as to what to expect from their next project: “A day startin’, night fuelin’, life exhilaratin’ sonic constructed with a 6 month old instrumental produced under 10 minutes in a bedroom studio.” That Lt. Dan line definitely had me chuckling.
The Visionary Music Group (QuESt, Castro, Jon Bellion, Logic) – “24 Freestyle” (Prod. by 6ix)
You may be familiar with Logic but the rest of VMG ain’t no joke either. They drop some clues as to their plans for 2014 so competing groups may want to pay attention.
