@GenericRapper: “2014 is my year! #NewRules”
The only thing I see more of on Twitter than embarrassing photos from NYE is claims from just about every rapper that 2014 will be his or her year. I’m all for, “speaking your future into the world,” and all but I’m sure the fans would have loved it more if some new music came out with those claims to give an idea of what the new wave in 2014 may actually sound like. Have no worries. Some rappers are letting their music make those claims for them. Below is just a sample of those rappers out there trying to make something fresh for the world. Sound off on our Twitter (@TheSource). If you can do better yourself, submit a track or video to SYLR@thesource.com.
Mike Melinoe – “Steady Vibe” (Prod. by Stereo Symphony)
The emcee from Organic Geniuses packs a lot more in his bars than your average rapper. Look out for this Detroit collective in 2014. It might be their year…
Franc Grams – “Same Me, New Year, New Money” (Prod. by Lando Beats)
Connecticut Franc Grams is hungrier than you to share his thoughts and emotions with the world. Listen to his manifesto and try to doubt him.
Chris Faust – “The Summer Ours, The Winter Too” (Prod. by Dujeous)
Why settle for just one part of the year? Dominate year round.
Alexander Dreamer – “Freedom of Speech”
Off of Dreamer’s upcoming Dancing With The Devil project (1/6), which was written, produced, and recorded by the man himself. Let him have his four minutes to speak his mind. You won’t regret it.
Relly Snow (feat. Edie Sedgwick) – “Lincoln Center 62″
A little something from NYC to keep you in a summer time state of mind in this snowstorm.
KR – “Off The Record” (Prod. by Nico Fazio)
The new release from the Unsigned Hype alumnus gives you some more “impolite flows” to express his thoughts off the record.
Koncept & J57 (feat. Co$$, Tenacity, Johaz, Blame One, El Prez, Realm Reality, Mike Maven) – “When I Get There”
Koncept and J57 have been working on building a fresh new sound between the two of them for a while now and they had so much fun doing it, they invited some friends to share that new sound.
Bekay – “2013 Year In Review”
Almost 10 years running, Bekay’s Year In Review is a great way to recap all the madness that went down during the year. 2013 gets the witty treatment over Pusha’s “Numbers On The Board.” Hilarious right from the opening.
