Architect your nightmares like Freddy…
The Winter Olympics kicked off last night with the opening ceremonies taking place tonight. Meanwhile, the disgraceful, walking spectacle that is George Zimmerman continues to make headlines for all of the wrong reasons. Well, let’s turn our attention to something else this weekend-fresh music. You know the drill: Sound off on our Twitter (@TheSource). If you can do better yourself, submit a track or video to SYLR@thesource.com.
L’Orange (feat. Mr. Lif, John Robinson) – “The Lost Nova”
It’s been a while since I’ve heard Mr. Lif’s name on a track and he doesn’t disappoint. Here is producer L’Orange’s jazzy contribution to Mello Music Group’s Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows. And if you see the man on the streets, congratulate him. He just signed a three album deal with the group.
The Boy Illinois (feat. Boss Woo) – “Winter & Construction” (Prod. by Von Vuai)
If you’ve ever lived in Chicago, you’d agree with ya Boy that there are really only two seasons in Chicago-Winter and construction. Get an idea of both on this anecdotal track.
Random (feat. Joell Ortiz, MURS) – “Losses” (Prod. by Alex Minor)
LA’s emcee is joined by Joell and MURS to tell the familiar story of handling a less than ideal dealt hand in life. Off of his upcoming Wouldn’t Miss It For The World EP.
Dow Timo – “Motion Picture” (Prod. by Beatbusta)
Don’t live too fast otherwise you’ll miss all of it. So slow things down with NY’s Dow Timo as he explains his not so stereotypical rapper life.
Chris Faust – “For What Tho” (Prod. by !llmind)
…on the other hand, why would you ever slow down your hustle? Chris Faust asked the same question and has this in reply.
Alex Wiley & Mick Jenkins – “Forever” (Prod. by Sunny Dukes)
The melodic Wiley and cerebral Jenkins banged out this track which breaks down how temporal “forever” can seem like. One time for the good folks at Closed Sessions.
E-Prosounds – “GW Bridge”
For the young NY emcee, the end goal is in sight so it’s all about the journey to get there. Don’t skip a step in his travels.
DaVillins (feat. LABBA) – “NY Generals”
The Brooklyn duo just signed to Sean Price’s Ruckdown Records and are definitely keeping their roots close to heart with their new release.
Franc Grams – “Freedom” (Prod. by Smoke The World)
An honest look at the prison industrial complex. Even when you think you’re outside of those fences, you may have a lot less freedom than society has you to believe. Make sure to listen to the whole track.
