promethI’m rarer than a hypebeast to the death of me/sippin’ on that prometh-azine…

Today’s cliche line stems from the obsession rappers have obtaining something hard to find or discontinued. Now that Actavis has ceased making and selling Promethazine Codeine, you can expect said rappers to brag about having the world’s last bottle starting yesterday. I always wondered what would happen to a drug like lean that became as easily obtainable as Adderall or alcohol for teens, but slightly more dangerous. Well, now I know. Being the cynic I am, I assume that a competing company lobbied to have Actavis stop production. One thing is for sure, it’ll be a struggle to hear rappers add one more item to their laundry list of things to brag about. Obviously I expect some clever lines to come out of the whole situation but for the most part, I’ll be like. You know the drill: Sound off on our Twitter (@TheSource). If you can do better yourself, submit a track or video to SYLR@thesource.com.

*Taylor Bennett – “Hope” (Prod. Monte Booker)

You may be aware that our Rookie of the Year for 2013 has a younger brother is making a name for himself as an emcee as well. You can see the resemblance in his voice and flow but Taylor is on his way to creating his own lane in Hip-Hop with personal songs like this. Off his upcoming Mainstream Music project (5/4).

*Adam Reverie – “Black Boy Out In Poverty” (Prod. Stereo Symphony)

Detroit emcee Adam Reverie is angry at the “Rap” that you consume and he’s about to change all of that. Lupe Fiasco would be proud. Off his upcoming Idiot Writer project.

*Seven1 – “From Me To You” (Prod. J Rell)

Chicago’s Seven1 drops off the last single before he gives us Cross my HEart (The Audio Picture). And I’m glad since it’s about time the world hears his full story.

*Kolley – “Real Love” (Prod. Big K.R.I.T.)

Mississippi newcomer Kolley is getting ready for his RNS (4/30) mixtape and the first single tells of the family bond he shares that nothing could ever replace. Hold on to what you have before you lose it.

Chinkie Brown – “Human Nature”

This track is one of those tracks you hear in the studio and say to yourself, “This could be a hit.” Now we just need to spread the word…

*Angelo Mota – “PIGS” (Prod. Roach P)

The Baltimore emcee who now lives in Jersey is making his claim to Hip-Hop’s next underdog just like everyone else-except this kid has the talent to make it. Off of his upcoming The Good Life project.
