A state of self-parasitic decay is upon us. They kill us; we kill us. We have to challenge ourselves to heal from within. Newark, New Jersey’s Clinton Avenue (between Osborn Terrace and Chadwick Avenue) is set to host its annual 24 Hours of Peace rally. The outdoor cultural event is strategically orchestrated to address violence through utilization of the performing arts. Friday, August 23, 2013 6P-Saturday, August 24, 2013, 6P the community at-large is challenged to promote peace.
Celebrating its third successful year, music, dance, film and Spoken Word are the conduits to promote the message of Peace and Unity in the community. The overall message is to say “Time Out” to the community, and to coexist for 24 hours without any violent acts, physical or verbal, as a glimpse to a present/future, violence free community.
‘24 Hours of Peace,’ CEO, Elijah Glenn expresses, “No matter your nationality, the love of music unites us all. Using it as a way to bring communities together in the spirit of peace, just makes sense.” Over 2000 people are expected to attend this event.
A diverse roster of entertainers will donate their talent to the cause of establishing and maintaining peace. Returning Co-Hos,t Tap Dance King, Savion Glover, DJ Antoine Qua of 107.5 WBLS, Hip Hop Greats EPMD, Redman, Brand Nubian and a host of local artists, including Grumpy Old Man, Queen Bleu Nile, and Rhymageddon.
