Yo! light skin Jermaine is flexin’ and we ain’t even mad!
J.Cole dropped his second single “Niggas Know” from his sophomore album “Born Sinner” and he’s letting folks know he’s a changed man.
The track has a consistent head knock and is laced with a haunting rhythm. The North Carolina MC, who channels Biggie’s “Notorious Thugz” flow, recently revealed in an interview he battled self-doubt while creating the album, but got a little cocky on this one.
Cole isn’t rhyming about his one time college sweetheart and trying to get signed. Instead he’s getting more hoes than John Legend, rhyming about what the game can do to a young emcee, having an Automa watch and making a mil off the flow.
I must confess
I copped the chains
I hit the club
I made it rain
I hit the road
I made a name
I came on home
I ain’t the same I ain’t the same
Made a mil off the flow make sure these n***as know
Sonically, J. Cole is experimenting with new sounds. Gone are the triumphant beats found on “Sideline Story” instead, are more reflective tracks. Lyrically, Cole is continuing to tell the stories we love.
At the end of the day, it’s about to be a Cole World come June 18, and he’s letting y’all N***as Know EARLY!
