Pink Friday, anyone?
Nicki Minaj‘s rappity rap resurgence in 2014 (see: “Boss Ass B*tch”, “Danny Glover Remix”, “My N**** Remix”, “Lookin’ A** N****, “Chi-Raq”) has everyone excited for her return to the hip-hop scene, which she strayed away from slightly with a large percentage of her previous work, most recently Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and the biggest single from that album, “Starships”.
Still, not even Peter Rosenberg–who infamously prompted Lil’ Wayne to pull the entire YMCMB conglomerate out of Hot 97′s 2012 Summer Jam concert with his comments about Nicki Minaj not being hip-hop–can deny how strong Nicki has come on in the new year, and just how much she’s backing in each punch, while still maintaining her mainstream appeal and even donning a new, more natural look in the process.
Right now (like, right now, as you read this) on Twitter, the Barbie is teasing her new fans with new music, namely, her third album, The Pinkprint. It has prompted a cult-like response (of course…only a cult leader could have grown men refer to themselves as Barbies) on social media, with fans responding with everything from angry tweets and emojis to full-on memes dedicated to their thirst for a new Minaj project.
How plausible is this? She did say she’s giving us a new trick every week until her album drops, and we got “Chi-Raq” ten days ago, its time for a fresh joint, no? Stay tuned to The Source to find out.
