Images of the new Nike collaboration have hit the Internet.
Jordan Brand, the undisputed king of on-court kicks, will drop a historic in-house collaboration with Nike’s SB skate line later this month. It’s an untraditional pairing between the two, but peep a look at the dope new design before you jump to any conclusions.
Jordans have inadvertently leaked into skate culture over the past three decades, since the Air Jordans’ supportive ankle height and rebellious image caught the attention of vert boarders. Lance Mountain first popularized Jordans in skate culture in ’87, and Nike won’t bother trying to fight the connection any longer with this official collab, which has been years in the making despite its atypical look. A limited number of the special Air Jordan silhouette drops March 15. The spray-painted designed was done by multimedia artist Craig Stecyk. The words “AJ One SB” are scribbled across the heel, while green spray paint runs through the shoe’s sleek black body.
It’s been a busy few months for Jordan Brand, which added Drake as a sponsor in December. Jordan currently boasts some of basketball’s biggest sponsorships, and Carmelo Anthony’s M10 “Year of the Horse” recently dropped in February. Nike, meanwhile, continues to ride momentum from the popular Yeezy Red Octobers. The SB x Air Jordans’ practical ankle height and fresh urban look make it sellable to both markets, and we can’t wait to cop a pair.
