Noah ’40′ Shebib, the beatmaker responsible for some of the tightest neo-soul and hip-hop beats heard on Drake‘s albums, recently cleared up some rumors that he’s working on a posthumous Aaliyah album. The rumors started buzzing this past month when Drake posted a preview of a new song featuring vocals that sound an lot like they might be Aaliyah’s to his Instagram. Even before the post, the rumors have been buzzing that there was a Aaliyah posthumous album in the works. Noah ’40′ Shebib cleared these rumors up in a recent interview with VIBE magazine.
“Aaliyah’s label Blackground—the Hankersons, which is her uncle and cousin—came to me and said if she was around she’d want you to do this [posthumous] project. But ultimately, I wasn’t comfortable and didn’t like the stigma. We released [“Enough Said”], but I was seven songs deep. [Aaliyah’s] mother saying “I don’t want this out” was enough for me. I walked away very quickly.”
Although it isn’t decided yet if there will ever be a posthumous Aaliyah album in the near future, there have been a lot of posthumous albums in hip-hop that were released that were well-received amongst the masses. Check out which one’s we’ll never forget.
