Jay Z ‘s Roc Nation Sports has added another superstar athlete to its agency with the addition of Yankee’s pitcher CC Sabathia. Roc Nation announced the signing of the ace pitcher via it’s Twitter page on Thursday, Jan 16.
According to ESPN, Roc Nation Sports president Juan Perez said, “CC exemplifies everything Roc Nation looks for in an athlete and a partner.” Jay Z was on hand for the signing, who also heads the Roc Nation Sports agency. Since starting he company Jay Z has signed on the likes of Kevin Durant, Geno Smith, Victor Cruz , Skylar Diggins and recently the $240 million man Robinson Cano who recent signed with the Seattle Mariners.
Unlike Sabathia’s former teammate Robinson Cano, Roc Nation will have to wait it out before they can find a new deal for the pitcher. His deal with the Yankees expires in 2016 with an option for an option of extension for 2017. Sabathia signed the one year extension back in 2011.
Roc Nation’s goal until Sabathia’s deal is expired, is to make him a bigger star off the field and make him a household name out of NY and baseball. Currently he has endorsement deals with Jordan Brand, Pepsi and Subway. As a result, Roc Nation will not have a hard time bringing in other brands into the fold. Adding Jay Z will only increase his celebrity and credibly with brands and corporations.
The signing also helps Roc Nation. By signing Sabathia it gives the agency more star power as the pitcher is a world series champion and former Cy Young Award winner.
