Supporters of the Martin and Fulton family gather in Harlem, Brooklyn, and Union Square today
After the verdict of not guilty was read last night in the Sanford County Courthouse in Florida, many people in other parts of the country saw no means to channel their frustrations, which resorted to isolated incidents of vandalism in cities like Oakland and Los Angeles. For the most part, peaceful vigils and protests were held to demand justice for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.
Today in New York @ 6 pm, a mass gathering will be held protesting Zimmerman’s acquittal. All day Sunday @ The Harlem State Office Building 125th St & Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. Also, @ Union Square at 2, 4, & 6 pm, and Brooklyn’s Borough Hall @ 5pm.
