The Source Magazine was on the red carpet for the World Premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s masterpiece The Great Gatsby. From the film the entire cast was in attendance Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amitabh Bachchan, Adelaide Clemens, Director Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and more. Soundtrack contributors in attendance included Jeymes Samuel, Musician Florence Welch, Emeli Sande and Jay-Z of course who Executive Produced the film and soundtrack. The setting of the premiere, Lincoln Center, served as the perfect backdrop for such a glamorous evening. Hundreds of fans lined up clamoring for their favorite stars.
The glamour of The Great Gatsby was brought to life as the stars, producers and nearly 700 guests straight out of Gatsby’s mansion, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jay-Z, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Macguire, Isla Fisher, Jake Gyllenhaal and director Baz Luhrmann all partied with Moët & Chandon at the after party at The Plaza Hotel. Leonardo was the first of the cast to arrive, causing a stir throughout the lobby as guests clamored for glasses of Moët & Chandon Imperial from a soaring Moët champagne tower, complete with a Gatsby flapper dancing on top holding an oversized bottle of Moët 1921 champagne. Stepping off the elevator, Leo gasped, “Wow!,” when he saw how his director,Baz Luhrmann, had transformed the iconic Plaza hotel into Gatsby’s mansion, pausing to admire the glowing Moët champagne tower before being ushered inside. Gatsby star Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal arrived together shortly after Leo, along with Carey’s husband, Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons.
Leonardo stuck to his VIP table throughout the night, but ran up to greet friend Jay-Z, who arrived just after midnight, complete with a massive entourage. Guests crowded the entrance buzzing with the anticipation of Jay-Z’s arrival, but he and his entourage managed to sneak in through a side entrance and make their way past the crowd and into the party. Much like his character, Jay Gatsby, Leonardo captivated the attention and curiosity of the entire party and was the true star of the evening. Busy celebrating the film premiere, he didn’t even seem to notice that his table was swarmed throughout the night as guests tried to take photos of him on their phones. The celebration really kicked off with an amazing procession of Moët & Chandon champagne bottles, including vintage 1921 bottles of Moët & Chandon as seen throughout film, The Great Gatsby. As flappers and Jazz dancers made their way through the crowd with sparklers and bottles of Moet, Carey Mulligan toasted with friends and paused to accept multiple complements from guests walking past her table on her performance as Daisy in the film. Isla Fisher stayed close to hubby Sasha Baron Cohen, while Tobey Macguire and Jake Gylenhaal held court at their own table.
Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann was truly the man of the hour, toasting with the entire cast throughout the evening and holding court in the lobby near the incredible Moet & Chandon champagne tower – but nobody seemed to grab his attention as much as Florence Welch of Florence & The Machine, who kept hugging Baz as she danced to the music, balancing a glass of Moët in her hand.
