The Source Magazine attended the Black Sail by Nautica presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion week. Chargers player Andrew Gachkar and Buffalo Bills player Brad Smith were front row in addition to Kellan Lutz and The Wanted alum Siva Kaneswaran.

The collection was inspired by “Tundra: Contrast of the Elements.” said Chris Cox, Black Sail by Nautica, designer. We had the opportunity to see the collection from the American Express Skybox, a special VIP experience available to card members only. Smoke came out of the entrance to begin the show. Johannes Huebl, Aimee Song, Ken Downing and Nick Wooster were seen on the front row bopping their heads at the fun rock music and manly everyday looks. Leather inserts and cool polarized sunglasses were part of some of the looks as well as tons of layering. One of the ensembles was a monaco blue heavy knot paired up with shorts was a smart combination of textures for fall. The models walked with a quirky smirk and perfect amount of confidence without making them look conceited. One of the looks was a stunning ice white parachute jacket with a black heavy turtleneck knit under and black pants, this introduced the black and white series of looks that were elegant and so manly. After the Nautica show, Amex offered a Q & A session with Epicurious’ editor in chief, Nilou Motamed. The Brooklyn resident was generous to offer suggestions for top restaurants from different cuisines and answer guests’ questions.

We spoke with Brad Smith after the show:

What brings you out to fashion week?

I’m actually an intern for Men’s Health magazine, so doing that and have an emerging designer with me and she is just getting introduced to the New York fashion scene and we’re trying to learn as much as possible

Tell me about transitioning into fashion?

I don’t think you really transition. I think everyone has a sense somewhat of fashion and you kind of learn about it and it’s more about the business and the industry of it that I’m kind of learning.

We also spoke with Siva Kaneswaran in the front row.

How excited are you to be here at fashion week?

So excited! It’s like christmas for me honestly. It’s my first time at New York Fashion week, so I’ve been to fashion shows yesterday and I’m really looking forward to Nautica today because it’s a really strong timeless brand and I always wanted to see it in person and I’m glad Im here

Tell me a little about your personal style?

It depends how I feel. I usually like to keep it very fitted and feel dapper and I always got to have a good jacket, you need a good jacket.

Whats coming up next for you?

I want to do my own solo music and I want to go on a kind of indie pop route and us boys after our tour are going on break…and I want to do my own personal endeavors and probably chase a few opportunities that I’ve been offered during this time and obviously follow my own fashion interests and be me and be crazy!
