An extremely influential movie in it’s own right, CB4 acted on what many thought: just how ‘Gangsta’ are Gangsta rappers.

The movie touches on the trials and tribulations that aspiring rap artists went through to ‘make it.’ Now remember, this takes place in 1993 — around the time that Gangsta rap thrive. Up until that time, many commercial artists used gimmicks to gain label attention.

However, once the notorious genre came into play, many still used them as another gimmick. And, in the style of N.W.A, the mock-umentary came about. The film starred: Chris Rock, Allen Payne, and Charlie Murphy as well as just about every popular artist at the time. This movie would later become synonymous for fake rappers and was used hip-hop frequently. Check out the trailer below.
