Oscar Pistorius

Blade Runner gets March trial date

Double amputee olympian Oscar “Blade Runner” Pistorius has officially been indicted on the charge of murder. Last Valentine’s Day neighbors heard a woman screaming followed by the noise of gunshots. The gunshots that came from Pistorius would be the cause of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp’s death.

Today in court prosecutors said Pistorius shot “with the intention to kill,” and that the murder was premeditated. The prosecutors will be looking to prove that Pistorius and his girlfriend argued prior to her death which lead to Pistorius shooting four shots through a bathroom door.

Pistorius’ defense since the beginning is that he called for Steenkamp from his bed telling her to call the police. Under the impression that there was a dangerous intruder in his house Pistorius fired gunshots in to the bathroom.

Currently the biggest difference in the two sides stories is the alleged fight between Pistorius and his girlfriend, and whether or not Pistorius was on his prosthetics. Along with the murder charge Pistorius will also be facing an illegal possession of ammunition charge.

If convicted Pistorius will face life in prison with 25 years before he can receive for parole. South Africa does not have a death penalty. Pistorius is due back in court on March 20th, 2014.
