Pimp claims Nike failed to warn consumers shoes could be used as lethal weapon
26-year-old Oregon pimp, Sirgiorgio Clardy, who was found guilty of second-degree assault and sentenced to 100 years in prison last July for nearly beating a man to death with his Jordan sneakers after the man tried to vacate a Portland hotel without paying one of Clardy’s prostitutes is suing Nike for $100 million.
In a three-page handwritten complaint that was addressed to Phil Knight, Nike’s chairman, Clardy claimed that the shoe manufacturers failed to alert buyers that the sneakers could be used as a lethal weapon.
After having been stomped so viciously, the victim needed stitches and eventually had to undergo a plastic surgery operation. Clardy is also serving time for beating an 18-year-old prostitute until she bled from her ears. He will be eligible for parole after 36 years.
Nike has not yet been served with the lawsuit, and has not presently released any public statements.
