Over the years inflation is largely to blame for transit hikes and high gas prices. But unfortunately, sneakers also feel the wrath of inflated production and material cost.
Back in 2000 on Jan 5th, Jordan Brand released the Air Jordan 5 (V) Retro White/Black-Fire Red (Fire Reds) with a retail price of $115. Back then, the kicks came with some basic essentials: an OG Box, OG tissue and a retrocard. Fast forward to November 2nd, 2013, Jordan Brand releases the Air Jordan 5 (V) Retro White/Varsity Maize-Varsity Royal-Black (Laney) with a retail price of $170. These now come with an OG Box, OG tissue but no retrocard.
Within 13 years Jordan Brand prices have risen by 35% and products aren’t quite the same as the originals. This is one of the main reasons why collectors rather OG (original) sneakers opposed to newer releases.
