Director’s Cut of Oscar Nominated Documentary
“The Act of Killing” Debuting at Queens World Film Fest
The director’s cut of the Oscar-nominated documentary of “The Act of Killing,” a documentary about a group of actors in Indonesia who were also mass murderers in the 1960s, will premiere at the Queens World Film Festival. The Festival brings movies from around the world to the most diverse County in the Country.
The Festival runs from March 4-9, will feature documentaries and shorts from countries including Belgium, India, Switzerland and Vietnam — as well as the work of 18 Queens filmmakers. The flicks will be screened at the Secret Theater and the Nesva Hotel in Long Island City, the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria and P.S. 69 in Jackson Heights.

FESTIVAL DIRECTORS
KATHA CATO—-Director – Katha Cato earned a BA from California Polytechnic University in Pomona and an MFA in Improvisational Theatre from the University of Oregon, moved to New York with her theatre company Forplay Improvised Theatre and pioneered the Improvisational Herald format – the long form – into the mainstream NY comedy scene. She won a MAC Award (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) for Best Comedy, a Backstage Magazine Bistro Award for Best Director and the NY Post’s Bill Ervolino named her the year’s Most Exciting Improviser. Katha is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business Executive Education Program.
DON CATO—-Co-Director/Programmer – Don Cato is an experimental and feature film maker with a strong academic background. He received his BS and BLA in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State and an MLA from the University of Oregon. His films have screened at an international and eclectic group of venues and festivals: Anthology Film Archives, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Cannes (Silver Medal – 1974 for Pipeline Patrol), Lincoln Center, RealHeART Toronto Film Festival (Be My Oswald -Best in Venue) the Dylan Thomas Center in Wales (Be My Oswald – Best Feature film) and Everglades Film Festival, South Africa. Currently teaches at the New York Digital Film Academy.
