In case you missed it, last weekend misfits, outcasts, weirdos and the like descended on Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park for AfroPunk’s annual two day music fest. Since 2005, Afro Punk Fest has been known to provide one of the most diverse array of music acts in the country. This year, the idea was to go big or go home. Acts like Wicked Wisdom, with Jada Pinkett-Smith as their lead singer, rapper/singer combo Theophilus London, who donned fans with a mix of unheard music from his forthcoming album, The UK’s The Heavy, Vintage Trouble and hip hop pioneer Chuck D amongst many others performed to cheering crowds on two different stages. On a personal note, it was my first year attending, and I was excited about catching Danny Brown and the newly revived punk band, Death. DJ ?uestlove closed the weekend with all the proper tunes to keep one dancing into the after party. We’ll see you next year AfroPunk!
