Last night –August 12, 2013– at Brooklyn Bowl, people from every neighborhood in Brooklyn (and beyond) swarmed the venue as natives Phony Ppl set to perform.
Consisting of six members, the young hip hop indie group is overly determined to claim their position in the current evolving hip hop culture that allows musicians to embody & display a soulful style.
The live band, that consisted of a guitarist, drummer, and pianist served as the perfect compliment to the vocalists’ energy- which overflowed throughout the entire venue.
Although most of Phony Ppl’s recognition thus far comes from overseas in the UK from BBC radio & MTV, with two albums on their backs (Phonyland and Nothing Special) they’ve definitely won over the hip hop heads from their hometown of bed-stuy, Brooklyn.
If you have been asleep since 2009 and haven’t had the opportunity to familiarize yourself with their music, you don’t have to search hard on the web to find these six young artists. The group is heavy on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram as well as their website phonyppl.com.
