I’m sure by now you’re familiar with Richard Sherman’s postgame actions following the Seahawks NFC Championship win over the 49ers. While his rant has been the focus of attention it’s his actions directly after his game-winning play that has him in hot water with the league.
Sherman tipped a pass that was intended for 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree in the endzone and instead in wound up in the hands of Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith. The interception sealed the win for Seahawks and in his excitement Sherman walked over to Crabtree stuck out his hand and said “helluva game, helluva game”. Crabtree responded by shoving Sherman’s facemask. Sherman also flashed a choking sign he said was aimed at 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Sherman was fined $7,875 for taunting and unsportsmanlike conduct. Crabtree was not fined.
The two have had run ins before and have made their disdain for each other clear but I’m going to need the NFL to be consistent with their punishments.
