If you’re a fan of Hip Hop you, by default, are obligated to be a fan of boom-bap. There’s just no way around it. I’m sorry if you’re upset with this new-found discovery, but Rap music and production was founded on the simplistic drum beats and boom-bap sounds of the 80′s and 90′s, eventually evolving to what it is today. It’s the foundation for this culture, and it’s the foundation for all music.
Rozewood has recently released an LP that captures these early days beautifully. Saluting Spike Lee‘s classic flick, Do The Right Thing, the project is entitled The Ghost Of Radio Raheem. This tape is one of those that can be played repetitively, without losing traction. Let’s give Radio Raheem some eternal peace and download a copy. All the man wanted to do was walk down the street and bump some NWA. Why? Because “it’s dope”. Two simple words.
If you’ve been searching for a proper 90′s ode, look no further. From beats to bars, The Ghost Of Radio Raheem is the total package. Included are features from El Da Sensei and fellow Strong Island rep Hus Kingpin and production from Apollo Brown, Marshtini and more.
Unrelated: Throwing this in here for good measure. Love. Hate.
