After being released nearly a week ago via Noisey, Slum Village’s new Jay Dee-produced single, “Yes Yes”, has already amassed hundreds of thousands of plays. Yesterday, the camp and Dilla’s “Yancey Media Group” made a very special announcement, stating that the song was now available for download and 100% of the proceeds from it will go directly into the bank accounts of Dilla’s offspring. That’s a beautiful thing, man.
Dilla will forever remain a monumental figure in, not only production, but Hip Hop as a whole. In a personal statement, Joylette (the mother of Dilla’s youngest daughter Ja’ May Yancey) comments “I would like to thank everyone for the love and support and Slum Village and Yancey Media Group for donating the proceeds from this single to Dilla’s daughters.”
“Yes Yes” can be purchased via iTunes. To listen to the track, click here.
Dilla has worked with everyone from the era of early Hip Hop, including the likes of The Roots, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Common and more. Dilla Day was recently celebrated in his honor as well. February 7th, is renowned in this culture as a reflective moment to appreciate and respect what he has done for us. This year included DJ Premier, Pete Rock, De La Soul and Slum Village.
J Dilla passed away in 2006 at age 32 from complications with Lupus. His soothing and always melodic instrumentals still give me goosebumps today; something about those drums that ALWAYS hit home. I’ll be breaking our the Dilla vinyl’s I have this evening, just because. Head over to the iTunes link (above) and support the Dilla legacy.
