It might be worth more
Raekwon‘s about to miss out on some serious dough.
A couple weeks ago The Wu-Tang Clan revealed their new album, A Better Tomorrow, would be released in quite a unique fashion. The group would only be making 1 copy of the album. Not on version, but literally, one copy. It will be packaged in a specially designed ornate case, put together by British-Moroccan artist Yahya, and the Wu will take it around the world to exclusive art galleries, museums and other institutions where they’ll be charging for folks just to listen to the album. It may seem entitled and gratuitous on the surface, but the greatest group of all time re-uniting probably for the last time is a story that deserves to be held in the highest regard.
The RZA revealed to Billboard that he’s received several million dollar offers for the album, one of which was as high as 5 million dollars.
Offers came in at $2 million, somebody offered $5 million yesterday. I’ve been getting a lot of emails — some from people I know, some from people I don’t know, and they’re also emailing other members of my organization. So far, $5 million is the biggest number. I don’t know how to measure it, but it gives us an idea that what we’re doing is being understood by some. And there are some good peers of mine also, who are very high-ranking in the film business and the music business, sending me a lot of good will. It’s been real positive.
