Comedic actor and producer, Marlon Wayans, recently visited the CAU campus to promote his latest film A Haunted House 2.
The film, like the first, borrows a lot of things from popular horror films, like the doll from The Conjuring and the box from The Possession, and puts a humorous spin on them.
“I just wanted to do something different and change parody because the bad ones kind of made the genre nasty,” Wayans said as he explained the concept behind the film. “I still have love for the genre but I just wanted to do something original.”
Wayans also said he was inspired to do the film as he came up with the idea to do a “low budget comedy” as studios began “locking down on film production.”
The original concept was a “found footage comedy” inspired by the Paranormal Activity series. The film would have been the first of its kind.
“The inception of the [original] movie was Paranormal Activity with a black couple and the sequel just came watching from watching The Conjuring and The Possession.”
In the film, Wayans returns as Malcolm who is starting fresh with his new girlfriend and her two children after exorcising the demons out of his ex.
The couple moves into their dream home only to find that Malcolm is still being haunted by the paranormal events.
A Haunted House 2 is coming to theaters April 18th.
