The Source Magazine was on the red carpet for the World Premiere of Director David O. Russell’s masterpiece “American Hustle” at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York on Monday evening. Christian Bale, Director David O. Russell, and other cast members, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Jack Huston and Louis CK were all in attendance.
Film Synopsis: A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, “American Hustle” tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, “American Hustle” defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

Amy Adams spoke with us about her role in the film.
Q: In terms of communicating with David and becoming this woman, how big was the challenge and how fun was it to go back to the 70′s and 80′s?
Adams: Oh going back to the 70′s was great, I feel like I missed my era. I felt so comfortable in those clothes with that hair, just the over the top presentation. But going back with David was amazing. We had such a great time working with Christian again and getting to work with Bradley, who I saw on Broadway first and I’ve been wanting to work with him since then and then Jennifer [Lawrence] who I was obsessed with since I saw “Winter’s Bone.” Everyone brought such an amazing investment and energy and working together with that and with David, it just enlivens the set.
Q: How was David’s energy different this time around compared to “The Fighter”?
Adams: Well I think that David sort of takes on the energy of the characters that he’s directing and so very much like a method actor, sort of gets lost in sort of the characters intentions and motivations. I think that David could have at any point, put on one of our costumes and have done the scenes. He knew the characters so much, he was just in it. He was always on set, always present, always there with suggestion and on “The Fighter” he wasn’t as present, I mean David’s never going to be the quiet director in the corner but…
Q: Can you talk us through your costumes because they were sensational.
Adams: Thank you. Well Michael Wilkinson, I give that to him. He really worked hard and collaborated with David on coming up with an emotional journey for each costume. And so it’s not just, “Ooh, she’s wearing a risqué thing,” it was an intention. Whether it was she was trying to distract someone from the con, or she was trying to manipulate someone for information, or if she was giving the middle finger to her lover who brought his wife to the party. That would be that dress. That addresses the middle finger dress.
Q: Were you comfortable?
Adams: I got really comfortable. I really embraced the character and I just felt organic in it.
We also spoke with the film’s production designer Judy Becker and producer Charles Roven.
Following the premiere, moviegoers exited the Ziegfeld and climbed onto coach buses that shuttled everyone to the beautiful Cipriani. Upon arrival, guests were greeted with Grey Goose Le Fizz cocktails before entering the massive space, which was decked out 70s style complete with sparkling disco ball and giant planters exploding with white feathers. Other stars who showed up to support their friends in the film, included Taryn Manning, Ashley Benson, Carla Gugino, Patrick Wilson and Behati Prinsloo. Vanity Fair also presented the event.
