USA’s Tyson Gay amongst runners who test positive
This weekend the USA Track & Field community took a hit with Tyson Gay testing positive for a banned substance. Over the weekend Gay’s “A” sample came up positive for a banned substance, this means if his “B” sample comes up positive he will face a ban. A four-year band will most likely put Gay out of Olympic competition due to the fact that he is already 30-years old.
Gay wasn’t the only high profile runner who tested positive for a banned substance. Jamaica’s Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter, Sherone Simpson, and two others tested positive as well.
When you hear people test positive for a banned substance they usually have a story about how it happened accidentally. Gay on the other hand owned up to his mistake saying;
“I don’t have a sabotage story. … I basically put my trust in someone, and I was let down.”
Following the weekend news Gay’s sponsorship with Adidas has been suspended. A spokesperson for Adidas had this to say about the positive testing;
“We are shocked by these recent allegations, even if we presume his innocence until proven otherwise, our contract with Tyson is currently suspended.”
