When one door closes, another one opens. The saying is about as cliche as it gets. Still, you can’t deny how often it seems to hold true. Rapper/songwriter Mike Stud was once an All-American pitcher at Duke University with a whole life of baseball ahead of him. Unfortunately, an elbow injury would strike his dreams of playing in the majors from any future record books. The curveball however, led the Rhode Island native to work on pitches of a different kind in he vocal booth and soon a hobby which had started out as a joke would become Mike’s new sport.
This latest installment of Tattoo Tale‘s surrounds a story of new beginnings not only for the young rap artist, but +lso for a fan that was so moved by his music that they found the will to live again in his lyrics. The former Duke pitcher may have put his best numbers on the scoreboard after baseball. Lives saved = 1.
Mike Stud:
It’s a very meaningful tattoo. It’s the date that I had surgery. Without that day I would’ve never had a music career. I got the tattoo in New York City about a month ago on my wrist for like, $65. It was also tied into “Past Gone” because the girl cuts her wrists and she’s suicidal, so I did that as a bit of a notion to her.
Honestly, when I had surgery I went through a period where I was really upset and depressed that my [baseball] career got put on hold. But at the same time it blossomed into another career for me and everything is great now so I kind of did that as a message to her. It’s definitely a meaningful tattoo for me and it’s probably the only one I’ll ever get.
