Randall Lee Vaughn and Mary Lavonne Vaughn facing murder charges after making daughter drink excessive amounts of soda and water

Randall Lee Vaughn, 41, and Mary Lavonne Vaughn, 58, are facing murder charges after allegedly forcing the man’s 5-year-old daughter to drink excessive amounts of grape soda and water, which ultimately lead to the young girl’s death.

After having gotten caught taking “one or two grape drinks” that belonged to her stepmother, Linboom was forced to consume the fluids, according to District Attorney Berkeley Bell.

“She was allegedly force-fed so much liquid that it caused the sodium level in her body to go down and caused her brain to swell,” Bell told CNN affiliate WJHL.

Bell also informed WJHL that in addition to being forced to drink more than 2 liters of fluids in approximately two hours, Linboom suffered from other various types of punishment as well.

Two days after being driven to the hospital after her parents discovered she was unresponsive on New Year’s Day in 2012, Linboom was declared brain dead and subsequently taken off of life support.

After a two-year investigation, Linboom’s death was ultimately ruled a homicide as a result of acute fluid/water intoxication, said the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office in a  statement made earlier this week.

The couple has been charged with first degree murder, two counts of aggravated child neglect, aggravated child assault and are currently being held on $500,000 bail and are set to go to trial on Oct. 20.

The two are due back in court for a pretrial in April.
