Remember that part in the bible where it talks about not judging people? Yea…well a Texas pastor apparently skipped over it when he told his church staff  that they should stop wearing weaves. Pastor A.J. Aamir, founder of Resurrecting Faith in Waco, Texas, claims that women who wear weaves present a false image of themselves and most likely have low self-esteem. Riiiiiiight.

“Long hair don’t care. What kind of mess is that? I don’t want my members so focused on what’s on their heads and not IN their heads” he told AmericaPreachers.com.

“I lead a church where our members are struggling financially. I mean really struggling. “Yet, a 26 year old mother in my church has a $300 weave on her head. NO. I will not be quiet about this.”

While Pastor Aamir admits he cannot legally prohibit women from wearing weaves in church, that won’t stop him from judging those who do. ::wags finger in shame::

Soooo….you’re a pastor, your job is to preach not judge. Now while you have every right to advise and speak your opinion, in no way is it cool to single out a group of people based on the one thing that is arguably most important to them.  A woman’s hair is her crown and even the most confident woman will find it impossible to walk around with it looking less that its best. And if for that woman looking her best involves wearing a weave, then so be it. Who are you to judge others on how they style their hair?!

Sure, it doesn’t make sense to spend $300 on a weave when you can’t pay rent, but what about dudes who spend thousands on jewelry, cars or Jordans every other week when they don’t even have a savings account? If you’re going to attack people for having the wrong priorities why not address the entire black community as a whole, instead of coming off as a misogynistic jerk who targets black women and their “low self-esteem”?
