Good God Almighty! Like back in the old days, when it was impossible to clear a sample…

Now it looks like some things stayed the same for Drake. 2013 was big for the Canadian-born artist. He released an amazing album, had a ton of quotable verses on remixes, a U.S. tour, a shot at hosting SNL, a European tour (accompanied by Rihanna), and now he’s set to host the ESPY’s. Aubrey “Drake” Graham has the world of music and pop culture in his hands right now.

Unfortunately, a la The Notorious B.I.G., “the more money you come across, the more problems you see.” And, here we have it, about seven months after the release of his latest album, Nothing Was The Same, which as of April 13, 2014, sold 1,535,000 units in the U.S., the estate of Jimmy Smith, who’s voice is heard in the intro of “Pound Cake/ Paris Morton Music 2″, is claiming that Drake never received permission to use the sample. The late jazz musician’s estate is looking for upwards of $300,000.
