Beef is to rap what dolphins are to water. That is to say, you know it’s out there somewhere so you just sit and wait and hope for the drama to drop. At some point when you least expect it a track pops an explosive line and everyone is up and running around looking for freestyled retorts, mean-spirited tweets and radio interviews building the beef.
But sometimes, the battle between rap brands goes horribly awry. Instead of the two coming to an amicable squashing and followup collab…someone gets their feelings hurt in the most humiliating of manners. Welcome to the rap game. Dissing, table for two please?
11. B.O.B. Vs. Tyler, The Creator
B.O.B.’s song ‘Airplanes’ with Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams blew up in the summer of 2010. The song was so popular that B.O.B. had it remixed with new verses from himself, Williams and Eminem.
Tyler, The Creator, however, was not drinking the “Airplanes” Kool-Aid. In his song “Yonkers” he talks about crashing an airplane and mentions B.O.B. by name. “No Future” was B.O.B.’s diss track response where he laments the mewling of youngling upstarts.
Tyler, in a surprising twist, actually complimented the “No Future” track via twitter and offered no response track. He did, however, reiterate his hatred for ‘Airplanes.’
And in a GQ article in 2012 B.O.B. confirmed that the beef was squashed calling the whole thing lame. Looks like Tyler should take his beefs more seriously if he’s going to go at more seasoned professionals lest he get taken apart again.
