What to look forward to for Mardi Gras 2014
In approximately 3 days, Mardi Gras will hit New Orleans by storm as it does every year! Known as one of the BIGGEST holidays in New Orleans, Mardi Gras has a history of FUN, FUN FUN. For those who wish to partake in Mardi Gras, there are plenty of things to look forward to on this day.
Rock The Colors
For starters, it is an ABSOLUTE MUST that you are in compliance with Mardi Gras colors: purple, green, and gold. Each color for Mardi Gras represents something. Purple represents justice, gold represents power, and green represents faith. These colors will be seen any and everywhere from the food to the parade, even right down to the Mardi Gras beads you wear.
Float Around
Speaking of the parade, it is one of the events to look forward to at Mardi Gras. Every year, the parade is something you just do not wanna miss. The parade consists of big designer floats driving down St. Charles Place Avenue. Alongside the floats, do not forget to witness the marching bands and dancers that perform during the parade. Kicking off the parades THIS Sunday March 2, 2014, catch Hugh Laurie of the television show House, to host the Krewe of Bacchus.
Be Creative
Costumes are the best when it comes to Mardi Gras. Costume wearing is like Halloween but not quite. You get to design your own mask, costume, etc, and walk around town and show off your creativity. Mardi Gras is known for the extravagant attire during this holiday. Even visitors participate in wearing costumes not just residents.
Smooth Jazz
As we all know, New Orleans is where jazz was birthed. Therefore, expect to hear a lot of jazz music and more! Be sure to check out some of the jazz clubs and make a trip down Bourbon Street for some more music events.
Pig Out
Lastly, absolutely do not forget to EAT, EAT, EAT! Mardi Gras is known for the best gumbo, jambalaya, and don’t forget King Cake!
