An original six clash
The Boston Bruins completed their sweep of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals, and last night we saw a thriller in Game 5 of the Blackhawks vs. Kings series. The Blackhawks were looking to clinch the series with a win while the Los Angeles Kings were looking to extend the series another game. In a double overtime thriller the Blackhawks advanced thanks to a hat-trick by Patrick Kane.
This is the first time since 1979 that two original six NHL teams will be facing off in the Stanley Cup Finals. Due to the lockout shortened season the Blackhawks and Bruins did not play each other this season because no interconference games were scheduled. The last time these two franchises actually played each other was in October of 2011 where the Bruins won.
Game 1 will be in Chicago on Wednesday night.
