THE DAYMOND JOHN ACADEMY (DJA) AND THE HIP-HOP SUMMIT YOUTH COUNCIL (HHSYC) CELEBRATE “HIP-HOP AGAINST GUN & GANG VIOLENCE WEEK” (May 17-23, 2013) AS PROCLAIMED BY NYC MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG, THE NYC COUNCIL AND NASSAU COUNTY EXECUTIVE EDWARD MANGANO AT THE SHERATON HOTEL WITH PLANS TO CURB GUN & GANG VIOLENCE BY CONSULTING, TRAINING AND PREPARING ENTREPRENEURS FOR SUCCESS.

To show support for “Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Week” Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council board member Daymond John, who is also the founder of FUBU and star of the hit ABC TV show “Shark Tank,” kicked off his Daymond John Academy at the Sheraton Times Square in New York during “Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Week” to make a statement regarding his economic strategy and commitment to curb gun and gang violence.  The purpose of the event was to show new entrepreneurs how to succeed.  The academy’s goal is to help 500 members launch their own business this year.

DaymondBanner1“The Shark” Daymond John and the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council know that poverty and ignorance are the root causes behind gun and gang violence.  One in five children are living in poverty in the greatest country on earth, and the only way that will change is to provide up and coming entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed.  We can reduce gun and gang violence by moving poor and disadvantaged people into the middle class so they will have a stake in life.

Through the DJA the HHSYC will be able to offer young people the education, skills and contacts they need to lift themselves out of poverty.  “We can’t ask gang members, drug dealers or those that have just returned from prison to live a productive life unless we provide them with the ways and means to feed their family.  Through this partnership with the HHSYC the Academy can help those seeking a real opportunity to make money and change their life,” ended Daymond, Founder of FUBU and Star of the hit ABC TV show “Shark Tank.”

Last year Daymond partnered with Edison Nation (EN) to find and promote cool inventions when he was not on the TV show.  The initiative was a huge success and this year he will travel with EN throughout the country promoting the Daymond John Academy.  The DJA is for anyone that has a business idea but needs guidance to take it to the next level.  Daymond created his marketing consulting company Shark Branding to reveal the secrets that made FUBU a $6 billion global brand and reinvigorated the once defunct Coogi brand into one of the most successful fashion companies on the market.  Consulting for some of the top Fortune 500 companies in the world, Daymond and Shark Branding share advice and experiences on branding, licensing, product placement, marketing strategy, and overall business consultation.

Reducing gun and gang violence is not an easy task and will take a multi-faceted approach to achieve, but through the power of the DJA, economic development and education we can reduce poverty and help young citizens live a productive life free of crime, violence and the criminal justice system.  Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Week is all about educating young citizens about the dangers of gun and gang violence and enlisting their support to stop all the senseless shootings that destroy families daily.

The HHSYC is in a unique position to curb gun and gang violence by using the success of Daymond and the DJA to bring economic justice to communities that will offer real opportunities to citizens looking for work or to start their own business.  Economic development is the best formula to truly end gun and gang violence and the DJA and HHSYC are ready and excited about taking on this task.

DaymondProc1The journey to improve public safety starts with a quality education and economic development.  By working with Daymond the HHSYC can show young entrepreneurs what they need to do in order to achieve their dream of financial independence.  This DJA is a great project and is sorely needed to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.  It is the unselfish contributions from socially responsible businessmen like Daymond that will provide the foundation to end gun and gang violence.

Though it is a slow economy nearly 50,000 new businesses are started every month, which equates to almost 600,000 new businesses per year!  While many grow into successful, thriving businesses, many will fail due to lack of planning, knowledge and guidance.  Despite a slow economy a record number of millionaires, 20.6 million, is projected by the year 2020.  The question is will you be one of them? “People say it’s tough to start a business these days, and they may be right, but in my opinion, it’s even tougher to be an employee,” ended “The Shark” Daymond John.
